Why Do I Clean Out My Closet So Often?
August 25, 2010 – 11:35 am | No Comment

One of the previous articles submitted inspired me to step into my closet once again and clear out some of the items that I have in there that have not seen the light of day. What a waste! Even though I’ll donate all that I clear out to a neighborhood charity, I had to sit and ponder why. Why did I buy these items in the first place?

What’s Going On?

What’s Going On?

Sometimes I feel like the Andy Rooney of this blog. I often write about my gripes and there are many gripes swirling around the atmosphere at the present moment. I don’t even know where to begin with the oil spill in the Gulf. I can’t watch or listen to it anymore. It isn’t that I’m apathetic. I simply get a pit in my stomach and a feeling of doom when I see the pictures of the beautiful blues of the water being tarnished by sludge. Some people aren’t beach people. I am. It is my valium. It is my ambien. It soothes my soul.

How Much Do You Know About Women’s History Month?

I borrowed this quiz from the National Women’s History Project (www.NWHP.ORG) and was disappointed in my score. Like many Americans I’m not as well versed in the historical achievements of Women as I should be. Let’s see how you score.

Why Do We Have The ‘Special Group’ of The Month Recognitions?

Shirley Chisholm

Our first African American woman elected to Congress is Shirley St. Hill Chisholm. Born in 1924 to immigrant parents, Shirley’s strong family values and upbringing helped establish her as one of our greatest elected officials. She lobbied for woman’s rights when she served as New York General Assembly from 1964-1968. During this time she introduced a bill providing state aid to day care centers and to increase funding for schools.

Help Us First

Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to be free…..Oh, and don’t forget a few billion dollars to aid Haiti, Chile and Africa. Afghanistan could use a few billion from us even though they don’t respect our country. Remember, we are the spoiled Americans who always step up and save the day for other countries who can’t save themselves. While some of these countries are deserving of our help, I am sick and tired of us helping everyone else when our government needs to help us with our financial crisis.

Human Trafficking: Today’s Slave Trade

Human Trafficking: Today’s Slave Trade

It is hard to believe in this day and age that there are an estimated 12-27 million people who are modern day slaves. More than half of these slaves are children. Most of these children are young girls who are sold as sex slaves and are subject to abuse from their pimps and customers who pay for sex. These girls are controlled through violence or threat of violence. They have no free will and many will end up dead from the cruel punishment they must endure.
