Stop The Madness!!

I had a history teacher in high school who had a signature line that is engrained in my brain. I can still picture him standing in front of the class, with his finger pointed and his arm raised, bellowing “minority rules”. I thought he was crazy, but over the years, I have decided he was not. All it takes is one idiot to stir the pot. Case in point – did most of the world agree with Adolph Hitler? No, but he reigned with all of his craziness and influenced a select group to follow and the world lost innocent people savagely and horribly so this maniac could create a master race.

Team Conan

Team Conan

I have been watching late night television  for years and feel terrible for Conan. Jay Leno should step down from his throne and admit defeat when his prime time show was a flop. Wasn’t it bad enough for him to come back to tv  a few months after announcing he was stepping down from late night television? Conan never had a chance to settle into his new digs. Jay Leno stole his thunder by returning to tv. He ultimately ended up competing with Conan because he took away his viewers. This was so unfair for Conan and I have so much respect for him given the circumstance he is in.

How could Jay Leno even think of asking for his old time slot back after 5 years of grooming  Conan to take over for him? Is Jay’s ego that big to match his chin? Come on, back off….this will only make us more inclined not to watch you. He has already damaged his reputation by knocking off Conan. Why should Conan step aside when he has been patiently waiting in the wings? I will be watching David Letterman if Jay returns to late night television.

I love Conan and his quirky ways. He is a fresh breath of air and that crazy hair and his facial expressions make him loveable. He is a true entertainer and they did not give him a chance to really shine. Come on, didn’t David Letterman get a raw deal too when they bumped him from hosting the tonight show? They gave it to Jay Leno. Hasn’t NBC learned their costly lesson from years past? Do the right thing NBC or the peacock will leave you next.

That’s a pretty funny article Paula, but I think a lot of the decisions lie with the executives at NBC. Leno, Conan and even Letterman (years back) are only pawns used for the ratings war. The late night hosts are targeted as the good/bad guys because they are the ones in the public eye. It once again comes down to the bottom line, $. However, I do think they should have given Conan a little more time to establish himself. All three of these men are financially set for life, but as we know, money cannot buy happiness. They need a platform to do what they do best, which is to entertain people and put a smile on their face before they go to bed.

I love Conan, and I hope he gets a gig at some station! Preferably something a little earlier, so I can stay up to watch it. I think he’s hilarious!!

I’ve grown to like Conan. This change will backfire on NBC.

I have considerably less sympathy for Conan than you do! I also don’t think Conan can hold a candle to Jay. Conan comedy is silly and stupid!!!

This whole mess is Conan’s fault. He pushed NBC into giving Jay Leno no choice but to agree to retire five years ago by saying he wanted to host the Tonight Show or he would leave NBC. (I wish I could push my colleagues out so I could get their jobs!)

In 2009, NBC pushed Jay Leno out five months early, but not wanting to lose him since his show was No. 1 in its time slot, they offered him the 10 pm slot. He took it when they promised him two years to make it work. They reneged on him by only giving him five months before canceling. NBC wouldn’t release Jay in 2009 (because he might compete with them) and suggested Jay go back to 1/2 hour at 11:35 pm and wanted to leave Conan on Tonight at midnight. Conan threw a tantrum (like my children do) and said it was 11:35 or nothing! Of course, it wasn’t nothing he “raped” NBC of $45 million to go. He could have stayed at midnight until Jay was ready to leave. It wasn’t as though Conan was getting good ratings. He only got half of what Jay got in that time slot.

Sorry, but I think this is all Conan’s fault and have NO sympathy for him!
