Botox Benefits
Research is showing that botox is good for treating more than wrinkles. It appears Botox injections may have the power to reduce the frequency of migraine headaches. A large study was conducted on 1,000 migraine sufferers from the United States and Europe, and the results were recently presented at the International Headache Congress in Philadelphia.
After an initial four-week period, participants received two injection cycles of either Botox or a placebo over 24 weeks. The subjects kept diaries during all 28 weeks, noting every headache they experienced. When the experiment ended, scientists found that the frequency of headache days was reduced by an average of nine days in the Botox group versus 6.7 days in the placebo group.
Be warned, if you have a fear of needles, this may not be the treatment for you. Individuals were injected in at least 31 spots across seven muscle areas in the head and neck.
While the FDA has not yet approved the Botox treatment for migraine prevention, neurologists and headache specialists have been using it for years. It might be an avenue worth exploring if you do suffer from migraines.
